Javascript generated Windows can
be used to highlight or draw attention to just about anything. Some uses I can think of
are:
Presenting supplementary material on a related topic that might be better viewed
in a separate window. Handy for expanding on points, referencing other documents and doing
quickie tutorials.
Allowing visitors to call up different Web pages on the same site quickly without
leaving the page they are on, or jumping to a new URL in a separate Netscape window
A great way to advertise a product or service. A .gif, or .jpg, file does not
have to be loaded on a Web page. Buttons on a page take up minimal bytes and are begging
to be clicked. Click the button and up pops a window with an ad, banner or whatever.

you don't have Netscape 2.0+, or a browser that supports JavaScript, don't bother trying
